suggestions
· Please feel free to bring several outfits to choose from even if you only plan to use one. I will be happy to give you my opinion on what will photograph best with which backgrounds and with which poses.
· Solid colors photograph best. If you do choose patterned clothes, keep pattern petite and monochromatic if possible. Small pocket sized figures are fine, but avoid large figures, designs or words on chest if possible.
· Light or medium backgrounds are better suited with lighter clothes. Darker backgrounds are better suited with medium or darker clothes.
· For groups:
*Pick one neutral- denim, khaki, black, brown, navy, white… Each person wears an element of that neutral. Then pick one color. Each person wears a tone or variation of that color. The aim is to have the group be dressed in complimentary clothing, not particularly matching clothing.
*Adults should wear long sleeves and avoid turtlenecks.
· For children under five years old:
*Dress in clothes that fit well. The more clothing needs to be adjusted to lie properly, the less time the child will give for
capturing images. Try on outfit before coming in for your session.
*Choose shoes or socks with solid soles. Also, bare feet are always cute on a little one.
· For babies that do not sit up yet:
*Avoid large collars that may cut off the baby’s neck and chin.
*Avoid overall outfits unless they fit perfectly. If not, straps need to be tucked consistently and the bib of the overalls will cut off baby’s neck.
*Avoid hats or headbands. The more the baby moves, the less likely the hat or headband will be properly placed. Hats can be used as a prop in the background of some images.
*For baby girls, fuller or longer skirts and dresses photograph better than shorter skirts and dresses. Ruffle butt pants or diaper covers are always an advantage to have on hand.
· For newborns:
*Newborns photograph best in a diaper, diaper cover, a well fitting onsie with no pattern or print, or simply diapered and swaddled in a blanket. Feel free to bring a blanket or two of your own to create a more personal portrait, or use one from the studio.
*Parents or siblings of the newborn should wear white and khaki for a light, fresh image, or wear black and denim for a darker more dramatic image. Clean, well manicured hands on parents and children will photograph well while holding or touching the newborn.
